It didn't really work as a novel, because it wasn't structured enough, and the characters didn't really come to life, yet it wasn't personal enough to work as an autobiography. Unfortunately, I don't like Streatfeild's later books at all, as they become formulaic and show up weaknesses in her writing. I have that same edition of A Vicarage Family and have to say I wouldn't have found it interesting if I hadn't known it was a thinly disguised portrait of Streatfeild's own family.callmemadamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12711070764040041338noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4512516523018627966.post-42677843175371265772013-09-30T09:02:52.345+01:002013-09-30T09:02:52.345+01:00Margaret, I think you've hit the nail on the h...Margaret, I think you've hit the nail on the head there re her being unable to reveal her thoughts and feelings.I didn't feel I knew her after reading this. This sounds an odd sort of autobiography - as if perhaps she could only write about he life in a fictional way - and couldn't reveal her thoughts and feelings.Margaret @ BooksPleasehttp://www.booksplease.orgnoreply@blogger.com
